Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi is under serious threat, with Juventus understood to have reignited their interest in the Argentine defender as uncertainty surrounding Spurs’ Premier League status grows.
According to reports in Italy, Juventus are preparing a new offer for Senesi, with whom they remain in contact.
Hailed as ‘outstanding’ for Andoni Iraola’s side, the 28-year-old has been one of the standout defenders in the Premier League this season.
Senesi will not sign a new contract at the Vitality Stadium, making him one of the most coveted free agents in European football this summer.
Tottenham had been leading the race for the defender, who is set to depart Bournemouth when his contract expires in June. However, the club’s precarious league position threatens to unravel what had seemed an imminent deal.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side currently sit two points from safety, and Senesi is not believed to be open to dropping into the Championship, a vulnerability that has handed Juventus an opening to re-enter the conversation.
The Serie A club had previously tabled an offer of around £2.5 million per season across a four-year deal and will now try again to edge out Spurs in the race for Senesi.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have not ruled themselves out, with the Merseysiders exploring the centre-back market regardless of Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation, while Manchester United are also potential suitors as they seek reinforcements for an injury-hit backline.
Tottenham’s hopes of landing Senesi on a free transfer this summer remain alive, but with Juventus still circling and top-flight survival far from guaranteed, the Lilywhites face an increasingly fraught battle.
