First Big Signing for Storch’s Sheffield Wednesday?

England international Jack Grealish joked with Special Olympics GB athletes about joining Sheffield Wednesday next season.

The Everton loanee met with athletes who recently ran the London marathon.

One happened to be a Sheffield Wednesday fan. This led to Grealish discussing Wednesday legend and his close friend Barry Bannan, as well as the prospect of signing for the club.

“I could be at Sheffield Wednesday”

In the video, shared by BBC’s Match of the Day, Grealish was asked how much it would take to get him to sign for Sheffield Wednesday, as one of the athletes there supports the Owls.

In response, the former Aston Villa man said:

“One of my, well, good friends actually, played for them for a while, Barry Bannan.

“Yeah, he is a legend there, isn’t he?

“We’ll wait and see. See what happens next year, I could be at Sheffield Wednesday.”

His answer was, of course, met with laughter, but Wednesday fans can cling to the fact he didn’t actually say no — maybe his good mate Bannan put a good word in for us.

Grealish’s Record Against Wednesday

Grealish has played against Wednesday on four occasions, all for his boyhood club, Villa. He actually doesn’t have the best record against the Owls, not that it’s something that will keep him up at night. In four games, he has won just once, losing the other three.

The Owls won the first three games he played against the club, 1-0, 2-1, and 2-1. But in his last game against Wednesday, he was part of a Villa side that won 3-1 at Hillsborough.

The treble winner hasn’t scored against Wednesday, nor has he ever picked up an assist.

It’s unlikely he will cross paths with us for some time, in the league at least. Hopefully, the club will be back competing against players of such calibre regularly in the near future.
