Newcastle Set Anthony Gordon Price After Everton Sell-On Clause Emerges

Newcastle United have already placed a definitive price tag on Anthony Gordon as interest in the winger continues to grow ahead of the summer transfer window.

While the Magpies are not actively pushing for a sale, Gordon’s days in Tyneside seem to be numbered, and with multiple clubs monitoring his situation, it’d be better for Newcastle to sell him at the top of his value.

Gordon remains under contract long-term and has not formally indicated a desire to leave. However, the outside interest in the England international is closely watched internally, particularly with Newcastle facing pressure to balance their books once again ahead of a full squad rebuild.

[The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7234830/2026/04/28/anthony-gordon-future-transfer-arsenal-chelsea-bayern-newcastle/) reported on Tuesday that Newcastle are targeting a fee close to £80million for the 25-year-old, which would make him one of the most expensive sales in the club’s history following Alexander Isak’s record-breaking deal last summer.

“Sources with knowledge suggest they would like to receive around £80m for the forward,” Waugh reported. “Newcastle will be looking for the second-highest transfer fee they have ever received, surpassed only by the British record £125m Liverpool paid for Isak.”

The report also highlights an additional financial factor not reported to date that might be key and will definitely influence Newcastle’s final valuation and stance on a sale.

“The Athletic has learned that Everton inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that took Gordon to Tyneside,” Waugh reported. “The Merseysiders are due 15 per cent of any profit Newcastle make.”

That clause increases the importance of maximising any potential fee, with Newcastle needing to account for a portion of the profit being redirected.

For context, Newcastle paid Everton close to £40 million for Gordon, so they’d be getting double that figure if they sanction a sale for the reported price, earning only £34 million of that £40 million in profit.
