While most sources are saying that Chelsea are going to stick with Liam Delap this summer, there are also rumours about teams who might be interested in signing him.
CaughtOffside today carry chatter about Everton potentially signing the young Englishman after a dreadful year at Chelsea where he’s managed just one Premier League goal.
Delap on Everton’s radar for one good reason
It’s hard to see anyone wanting to buy a player after such a dreadful spell, but there is one thing in favour of a move. Because Chelsea bought Delap by activating his release clause, they got him for a cheap (or at least, what felt like a cheap) £30m.
That means they can sell him for something like £25m without making a book loss. Even to get what they paid a year ago would actually be a good deal financially, and allow them to move on and try a new option.
Perhaps the best move is to loan him out, hope he finds his feet and scores some goals for the Toffees. Then there will be no problem getting £30m or more for him in a year’s time.
In other news…
Gary O’Neil has done really well as Liam Rosenior’s replacement at Strasbourg, and the manager has a huge game tonight to show how much he’s improved the team.
Another teenage talent is on Chelsea’s radar – this time one who has barely turned 16. We’re not the only ones after his signature, however.
