Mason Greenwood could unlock a hefty transfer windfall for Manchester United if he moves to Juventus in the summer.

The 24-year-old left Old Trafford in 2023 on an initial loan to Getafe. He then signed a deal worth £26.7million to permanently sign for Marseille and has been there ever since.

In France, Greenwood has scored 47 goals and assisted 16 times in all competitions. This level of performance has grabbed attention, especially from Juve.

The Serie A side have been interested for some time, first entering discussions with United before Greenwood headed to Marseille. Interestingly, the club inserted a 40% to 50% sell-on clause in the winger's contract when he moved to France.

This pre-emptive move could rake in some cash for United if Juventus decide to sign Greenwood. According to The Sun, the 24-year-old is keen to move to Italy as he "knows he can't return to the Premier League."

The starting fee demanded by Marseille is around £43.3m, meaning United could pocket around £20m alone from this sale. Gazzetta reports that the "dream" transfer may only be achieved if the Ligue 1 side fall short of their European dream.

Marseille are aiming for a Champions League spot, sitting just four points behind Lyon, who are currently in third place.

However, with the side having recently drawn against 15th-placed Nice and having just three games left in the season, the club are running out of time to achieve this.

If they do miss out on the Champions League, Marseille may feel forced to sell some of their bigger assets to focus on pushing next season.

It's also understood that Juventus have a great working relationship with the French outfit, given their loan of Timothy Weah earlier this season.

Despite selling Greenwood two years ago, United could still profit from the winger down the line.
