In the past 18 months, both AC Milan and Juventus have had an interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta. However, they have never made the final step for him.
It is no surprise that Mateta’s situation has been of interest to Serie A clubs. After all, the Frenchman has been fantastic for Crystal Palace and as a more physical type of player, he should do well in Serie A.
However, his contract has also been a big reason for this. He would be an affordable signing and with a desire to take the next step in his career, he has not been overly keen about a renewal with Crystal Palace.
So, this is why the Rossoneri made an effort to sign him late in the January mercato. However, scans revealed a knee issue and he did not make the move to Milano.
Mateta’s agent revives Milan links
Things are not completely dead in the water, though. In fact, his agent was seen at San Siro (for the Juventus game) and Calciomercato.com reports that he was trying to probe interest from the clubs.
This summer, the striker would be available for ‘much less’ than he was in January, with Palace willing to ‘cash in’ on him now. Considering his agent, Paul Latouche, was surrounded by management figures from both the Old Lady and the Diavolo, the situation may not be dead.
Whether either will make the leap to sign him, though? That is the question…
