Tottenham will need to replace Guglielmo Vicario in the summer.
Tottenham Hotspur cannot afford to go down this season for several reasons, but their biggest concern should be the potential departure of key players.
Guglielmo Vicario has reached a full agreement with Inter Milan ahead of a potential summer move back to Italy. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s futures remain up in the air for months now, while Everton are planning to re-sign Richarlison in the summer.
Destiny Udogie is also linked with an exit from N17. Interest in the left-back has started growing, despite his up-and-down season due to injury problems and lack of consistency. Juventus have reportedly been looking to recruit the defender in the off-season.
Juventus plan to propose a swap deal between Michele Di Gregorio and Destiny Udogie
According to a report from Calciomercato, Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti is pushing to sign Destiny Udogie. However, the Turin giants are planning to propose a potential makeweight in the deal in the form of Michele Di Gregorio.
Udogie’s injury problems don’t look like ending. The 23-year-old has been limited to just 16 Premier League appearances due to a mix of calf and hamstring issues, with just 10 of them coming as a starter. He started the first two games under new boss Roberto De Zerbi but missed out on the Wolves win with an unspecified problem.
Regardless of what Tottenham’s status will be at the end of the season, Udogie’s future is seemingly up in the air. This is because the Lilywhites have positioned themselves as frontrunners to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson on a free transfer. Of course, a move for Robertson will depend on whether they stay in the Premier League, but it is clear that the N17 bosses have identified the left-back as an area of weakness.
If Tottenham do agree on a swap deal that will see Udogie move to Juventus and Michele Di Gregorio head to North London, it would be understandable. Di Gregorio has been a reliable pair of hands in Italian football in recent years. A vocal presence with strong command in the box, the Juventus goalkeeper would be an upgrade on Vicario. He’d provide more stability and security to Spurs’ defensive unit.
That said, it remains to be seen whether the Hotspur Way chiefs are ready to sanction such a deal if Juventus end up proposing it.
