Played booed by own fans as Aston Villa remain in transfer hunt – From bad to worse

Jonathan David’s struggles at Juventus are growing and Aston Villa can save the striker from his misery.

The Canada international joined the Old Lady on a free transfer last summer. At that point, a host of clubs were vying for his signature but the choice of ending up in Turin hasn’t paid off for David.

He has six goals in Serie A, also coming up with four assists, but his performances have largely been unconvincing. Inconsistency has led to him being in and out of the first-team under Luciano Spalletti.

Sport Witness have previously covered that Nottingham Forest came forward to sign him in January. West Ham are still be in the picture to sign him, attempting to bring him to London last summer too.

As things continue to be difficult, Aston Villa can hand the striker a much-needed escape route from the Bianconeri.

Juve eyeing capital gain

TuttoSport describe David as a flop for the Old Lady. Only a dramatic change in form before the end of the season will see him stay in Turin beyond this campaign.

While he did score against Bologna last month, more is expected from the forward. This is mainly because he earns €6m per season and bonuses of €2m, and his contributions haven’t been enough so far.

Besides, Juve will earn a major capital gain from his sale and remove his massive wages from their books.

Fenerbahce are interested but Aston Villa are offering competition. Unai Emery’s side are keeping a close eye on developments around the ex-Lille player, who has a month to change his fate.

David booed by his own fans

The 26-year-old started against Hellas Verona at the weekend, as Juve were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw. The result is likely to impact their march towards the Champions League, with Roma taking on Fiorentina today.

Tuttomercatoweb note that David’s performance was poor. So much so that Juve fans booed him when he was taken off by Spalletti in the 69th minute.

Villans move should appeal to David

The Canada international is approaching his peak and simply can’t afford another disappointing campaign next season. Spalletti will stay in Turin beyond the summer, which can make an exit necessary for David.

Aston Villa moved on from Donyell Malen in January, which can leave an opening for another attacking player next season.

David can fill in that gap, having guaranteed goals during his time at Lille. Players that thrive in Ligue 1 have historically done well in England and the Villans have witnessed that from up close too. That is why David could be a good move, especially as he shouldn’t cost much.
