Alisson “top target” for Juventus: Liverpool consider new goalkeeper signing

Alisson has been named as a “top target” for Juventus ahead of a big decision this summer, which has prompted Liverpool to consider a new goalkeeper signing.

Alisson could leave Liverpool this summer after eight years in which he has established himself as one of the club’s all-time greatest players.

The 33-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, including a recurring hamstring problem that has kept him out of the last eight games, while Giorgi Mamardashvili has arrived as his long-term replacement.

Juventus are widely credited with an interest in the Brazilian and Sky Sports now claim he is their “top target.”

They are ready to “devote significant resources and time” to secure Alisson‘s signature, which would include negotiations with Liverpool.

It has been maintained that Alisson would only leave Anfield with the club’s approval, not seeking to force any move which could tarnish his legacy on Merseyside.

But there is a sense that Liverpool could be open to the deal with Arne Slot not dismissing the prospect of his No. 1 departing at the end of the season.

To that end, Liverpool are “doing due diligence on potential goalkeeper replacements” in the event Alisson does join Juventus.

Who could Liverpool sign to replace Alisson?

No targets have been named but the *Times*‘ Paul Joyce reported last month that Porto’s Diogo Costa and Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier, then at Lille, were both considered before the £29 million deal for Mamardashvili was sanctioned in 2024.

Much would depend on the faith in Mamardashvili to take over as first choice, with the jury still out on the Georgian as he nears the end of his first season.

Turning 26 in September, he has made 18 appearances this campaign, keeping only two clean sheets and conceding 29 goals.

Mamardashvili has impressed with his shot-stopping but there have been reservations over his ability with the ball, particularly as team-mates routinely pass onto his weaker right foot.

Of course the situation around Liverpool’s goalkeepers will be complicated by doubts over Slot’s future along with the long-term commitment of the club’s decision-makers.

Sporting director Richard Hughes and CEO of football Michael Edwards are in charge of recruitment and retention, but both are out of contract in 2027 and could still leave the club amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

First-team goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero only returned to Liverpool last summer, rejoining this former club after 15 years away following the departures of Fabian Otte and Alisson‘s Brazilian ally and close friend Claudio Taffarel.
