Slegers insists her side have already moved on from Saturday’s Women’s Champions League exit and are ready to rise to the challenge of Wednesday’s league trip to the Broadfield Stadium.
The defending champions’ elimination at the hands of Lyon, who came back to win the tie 4-3 on aggregate, puts more pressure on the Gunners to take full advantage of their games in hand to qualify for Europe again through the Women’s Super League.
Slegers’ side currently sit third, five points shy of Chelsea and with an 11-point gulf between them and league leaders Manchester City, but they have played three fewer games than both clubs as well as fourth-placed Manchester United.
City's recent defeat away to Albion kept the title race alive.
“You could see straight away they were humble in defeat,” said Slegers, who gave her squad a day off.
“So far it says something about the growth of the team that the way we respond to setbacks and put things in perspective is we come together, we take ownership and we move on.”
England forward Beth Mead will be back at Slegers’ disposal, but the trip to Sussex comes too soon for Australian defender Steph Catley to rejoin the squad.
