Alan Shearer has backed Arsenal to beat Manchester City in the Premier League. He asserted the impact of City's 3-3 draw against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday.
The Cityzens played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Toffees on May 4. They are now five points behind the north London side atop the league standings, with one game in hand. If Mikel Arteta's side wins their remaining three games, they will win the title.
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer shared his thoughts on the title race on The Rest Is Football podcast. When asked if he expects more twists, he said:
"No, because I think Arsenal will win all three games. When you think about it, Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal players now are five games away from being legends of that football club forever."
"They can win the Champions League and they can win the Premier League. Win three in the Premier League and they’re done, win two in the Champions League and they’re champions… five games away!" he added.
Shearer further asserted:
"Manchester City have got a couple of tough fixtures, Bournemouth away being one of them. It was big, big night for Arsenal last night, a big night."
In the Premier League, Manchester City will next face Brentford on Saturday, May 9, while the Gunners will face West Ham United away on Sunday.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Premier League title race against Arsenal
Manchester City's clash against Everton was an enthralling one, which ended in a 3-3 draw. Jeremy Doku (43') gave City the lead, before the hosts turned it around through Thierno Barry (68', 81') and Jake O'Brien (73'). Erling Haaland (83') and Doku (90+7') managed to rescue a point for the visitors.
After the game, Pep Guardiola was asked about the Premier League title race against Arsenal, and he answered (h/t Metro):
"We take the point and until it’s over, we’re going to continue. It’s better than a loss. We played to win. It just shows what the team are. We tried and we have done it. It’s not in our hands. Before it was in our hands. Now, no. We have to do it in our four games that we have in the Premier League. It will be quite similar against Brentford. We will see what happens."
Manchester City have also reached the FA Cup final, where they will face Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Gunners have reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, with their tie against Atletico Madrid level at 1-1 after the first leg.
