‘Something must be done’ – Newcastle star ‘circled in red’, Champions League vital to transfer

Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali’s name is ‘circled in red’ at Juventus and ‘something must be done’ to get him this summer.

Calciomercato report that while Tonali has been at the top of Juventus’ wish list for some time, getting him for next season will be no easy operation.

Juvetus interest in Newcastle star

The website explains that he is almost a name that has a red circle around it, as if to signal that something must be done to get him.

For now, there have been no contacts with Newcastle. With several months of transfer window ahead, the midfielder’s return to Italy is not considered impossible. But it is not an easy move either.

The Bianconeri are aware that there are plenty of obstacles, including cost and competition. Juventus are in and there’s been contact with the Newcastle star’s agents. He feels no need for an immediate return to Serie A.

The competition comes in the form of Manchester United and Arsenal. The Gunners already made contact in January. They were given a valuation exceeding €70m by Newcastle.

That is the cost element of the obstacles. Juventus need Champions League qualification just to get close to a deal. They would still need to work out a deal with Tonali. He earns €8m net per season plus €2m bonuses tied to team and personal performances.

Difficult transfer

All signs, then, point towards a deal for the Newcastle midfielder being difficult to get done. The Magpies certainly aren’t going to offer discounts on a deal on a star player who recently extended to 2030.

And Tonali does not appear to be overly keen on a return to Serie A at this moment in time either.

Perhaps the 25-year-old is waiting to see what his options are before he makes any moves of his own. Either way, the stance for Juventus remains the same. Tonali will be difficult to sign this summer.
