Wayne Rooney calls out Arsenal for what they did after beating Atletico to reach UCL final…

Wayne Rooney has slammed Arsenal for what they did after their victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal welcomed Atletico to the Emirates Stadium looking to reach the final of Europe's premier cup competition for just the second time in their history.

The two sides could not be separated in the first leg as Viktor Gyokeres' opener was cancelled out by Julian Alvarez's penalty.

The Gunners were able to get the better of their opponents in north London, though, to book their place in the final of the competition. Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game just before half-time to give Arsenal a 1-0 victory in the evening and a 2-1 triumph on aggregate.

Wayne Rooney Questions Arsenal About Actions After Win vs Atletico

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta celebrates Champions League semi-final win over Atletico Madrid

A month ago, after Manchester City's victory against Arsenal in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, Rooney called out Pep Guardiola's side for over celebrating. His comments didn't go down well with the Catalan manager, who branded them 'stupid'.

Rooney has questioned Arsenal for the same reason after they booked their place in the Champions League final.

Following the final whistle, Arsenal's players and staff flooded onto the pitch as they celebrated their achievement. Fireworks were also set off at the top of Arsenal's home.

Their behaviour hasn't gone down well with Rooney. Speaking to Prime Video Sport, the former Manchester United striker commented, per the Mirror:

"They deserve to be in this position but they haven't won it yet. I think the celebrations are a little bit too much. Celebrate when you win!"

Arsene Wenger said Arsenal's celebrations were 'deserved' on BeIN Sport. "Over the two legs, there is no doubt that Arsenal were the better team.

"They celebrate well tonight - that is normal, but you want more for them to focus on the final already and the next game. The celebration is deserved, happiness is absolutely normal, but now the next step is to go to the final and win it."

Wayne Rooney Praises Arsenal Atmosphere

Despite questioning their celebrations, Rooney was highly complimentary of the atmosphere within the Emirates Stadium and said 'it's Arsenal's year.'

He said: "I played the Champions League semi-final here for Manchester United. The atmosphere that evening was nowhere near what it was today. Mikel Arteta and the board of the club deserve credit because there are loads of stuff they've changed.

"Whoever is making those decisions, they will be delighted with the atmosphere. It just felt a lot different to when we played here a long time ago. Mikel Arteta and the board deserve credit. It's Arsenal's year I think. They've shown it all season."

Arsenal will contest the Champions League final on May 30 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary. They will face either reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain or Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
