Leeds United could play major role in Aston Villa's transfer window as knock-on effect mooted

Aston Villa may need Leeds United to miss out on Lois Openda to allow them to sign Jonathan David from Juventus, a report has claimed.

Openda and David are both on the books in Turin and have been linked with moves away from the Serie A giants.

Leeds have been credited with interest in a loan-to-buy deal for 26-year-old Openda, who is currently on loan at Juventus from RB Leipzig. Villa, meanwhile, have been named as admirers of Canada international David, also 26.

Leeds United impact on Aston Villa mooted

According to Football Insider, it has been indicated Juventus will block a deal for David if Openda moves on in the summer window.

Leeds, therefore, could have quite the influence on Villa’s window if it is the Whites who manage to lure Openda from the Allianz Stadium.

Openda is only on loan at Juventus but there is an obligation to buy as part of his contract upon the meeting of certain conditions. Since making the switch to The Old Lady, the Belgium international has scored just once over the course of 24 Serie A outings.

Leeds United linked with frontmen

Leeds have been linked with an array of frontment of late, with the opening of the summer window just around the corner.

The Whites recruited Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha last summer and both have proven to be shrewd additions. However, if Leeds secure their Premier League status for another season, they cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

Increasing competition in the squad will only raise standards and manager Daniel Farke may be keen to freshen up his attack.
