Arsenal may be forced to wear their away strip for the UEFA Champions League final, with either Bayern Munich or PSG due to be named the home side in Budapest. T

he Gunners have reached what is only their first final in 20 years after eliminating Atletico Madrid in the semi-final.

Bukayo Saka found the net wearing the red and white at the Emirates Stadium to grab the crucial winner, but may instead be donning either the club's blue zig-zag away strip or their white and burgundy third kit for the final. This is down to how the Champions League bracket system operates.

Prior to the knockout stages, sides were placed into either the blue or the silver bracket. This is how Arsenal sidestepped the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, and the two other semi-finalists.

Plenty of Arsenal supporters welcomed their blue bracket placement due to the more favourable draws, which appear to have materialised.

Victories over Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting Clube de Portugal, and now Atletico Madrid will see them make the trip to Budapest.

However, they will be using the away dressing room at the Puskas Arena, and may be unable to wear their red and white home strip. That will ultimately hinge on who prevails between Bayern Munich and PSG.

When Arsenal faced PSG home and away last season, they donned their red and white home strip in both fixtures, owing to the Parisians' dark blue kit, which provides a strong contrast with the Gunners' colours.

Bayern, however, were required to change into their black away kit when they visited the Emirates Stadium back in November.

Should PSG advance, Arsenal are widely expected to line up in their home shirt for the final. But if Bayern make it through, the Gunners will likely be seen in their blue away kit instead.

Much like they were in 2006, when Sol Campbell netted against Barcelona while wearing the yellow strip from the 2005/06 season, this could mean back-to-back Champions League finals without the iconic red and white.

During Arsenal's defeat to Bayern in Germany in 2024, the Bundesliga giants wore a predominantly white shirt with red sleeves, while Arsenal turned out in their then-green and navy blue third kit.

Now that Bayern's current home strip is predominantly red, it seems only logical that the blue zig-zag shirt will be worn for the historic showdown in Hungary.
