On this day in 1921, Old Trafford was the venue for two football matches. The first fixture featured Manchester United against Derby County. Following this match, Stockport County faced Leicester City. Stockport County’s usual home ground, Edgeley Park, had been closed due to crowd disturbances, necessitating the relocation of their game. Remarkably, only 13 spectators paid to watch the Stockport match. However, several thousand fans who had attended the Manchester United game stayed on to watch the Stockport match without purchasing additional tickets.

Fast forward to 2006, and the date marked a crucial moment in the Premier League season. Tottenham Hotspur needed a victory in their final match to secure the fourth spot in the Champions League. However, they were defeated by West Ham United. The loss was compounded by an unfortunate incident of food poisoning, reportedly caused by a lasagne consumed by the Spurs players the night before the match. This setback allowed Arsenal to overtake Tottenham and claim the coveted Champions League place. Despite the circumstances, West Ham fans were noted for their willingness to assist, although the result stood, and Tottenham missed out on the Champions League qualification.
