Welcome to a series focusing specifically on the schoolboys at Arsenal who are currently at Hale End – those in the U16s and below. The academy is based in E17, Walthamstow. The 27th article is on Isaiah Matthews.
A talented right-back, Matthews is currently part of Arsenal’s U15 squad.
The youngster is effective in supporting the attack and is also capable of defending diligently.
Matthews featured prominently in Arsenal U15s’ recent success in China, although he suffered an injury during the tournament.
Next season will be an important season for Matthews’ development as he aims to earn a scholarship at the club.
Although he will face competition from recent signing Beau Luton, Matthews will be eager to be a key player for Arsenal U16s next season.
As well as England, Matthews is also eligible to represent Uganda or Jamaica on the international stage.
This series has now come to an end for this season although it may return next campaign as other youngsters make progress at various levels.
