“Deal On”–Fabrizio Romano Provides Major Update On Arsenal’s Summer Plans

Posting on his X account, Romano said that an extension has been in the works for a couple of months, and Arteta is keen on staying at the Emirates:

“Understand Arsenal are planning to offer Mikel Arteta a new contract in the summer. Plan already decided in March, regardless of end of the season results.”

“Arteta wants to focus on titles now, but in love with Arsenal project and looking forward to talks. Deal on soon.”

Arsenal have to make a decision this summer

Arteta will only have twelve months remaining on his current deal at the end of the season, so the club were always going to hold discussions with the Spaniard about his future.

Since his appointment at the end of 2019, he has worked closely with Arsenal’s owners, the Kroenke family, especially Stan’s son Josh.

With that in mind, it was never likely that the board would consider parting ways with Arteta, even if the Gunners end up not winning any silverware this campaign.

Arteta’s record since his appointment

The West Ham fixture this weekend will be the 44-year-old’s 350th game in charge of the club. In his previous 349 matches, he has won 210, drawn 66 and lost 73, giving him a win ratio of 60.17%.

If you compare Arteta’s record with that of past Arsenal managers, he is 2nd on the all time list, behind Joe Shaw (60.87%) who was only in the dugout for 23 fixtures.

Arsene Wenger is 3rd (with a 57.25% win rate), while (somewhat surprisingly) Unai Emery is 4th (on 55.13%). One of the club’s all-time greats, Herbert Chapman, had a 49.64% win ratio during his tenure at the club between 1925 and 1934.
