Lakers’ Austin Reaves reveals ref’s ‘disrespectful’ gesture in Game 2 loss to Thunder

Frustrations are bubbling over to the surface for the Los Angeles Lakers, and understandably so. They have now fallen behind 2-0 in their Western Conference semifinal series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, as they lost steam in the second half on their way to a 125-107 defeat. After the final buzzer, Austin Reaves appeared to have had enough, as he confronted crew chief John Goble, making him the third Laker to have an animated discussion with the officials.

One play in particular did not sit right with Reaves; with the game getting away from the Lakers in the fourth quarter and every possession mattering, Reaves tried to just get on the other side of Cason Wallace just as the ball was about to be thrown in the air for a jump ball. Goble appeared to scold Reaves for this maneuver, and the Lakers guard did not like this one bit.

“I felt like I was respectful to all of them all night. A million times in the past, I've said way worse stuff. And when we were doing the whole tip ball and they were switching spots, I wanted to get on the other side because they had a guy on the other side, was just trying to keep an advantage. And he turned around and yelled in my face,” Reaves told reporters after the game, via Spectrum SportsNet.

“I just thought it was disrespectful.”

The Lakers clearly did not like how the game was being officiated all night long. Head coach JJ Redick went irate on the bench when he was demonstrating how the Thunder were fouling the Lakers' players, while LeBron James also had his moments where he just could not believe the amount of contact OKC was able to get away with on him.

Emotions are high for Reaves and the Lakers, which is valid as they just couldn't seem to get one against the Thunder no matter how hard they try. But the last thing they need is to let their emotions get the best of them, which appears to be what happened on Thursday night.
