According to a report from Kathryn Batte in the Telegraph, Arsenal are considering offering a new contract to Katie McCabe with the long serving left-back’s deal up at the end of the season.
Previously it had been reported by The Athletic that Manchester City and Chelsea were interested in the player, we believe there was also interest from the NWSL. It was always our understanding that no talks had taken place with the player with the likely conclusion that she would leave at the end of her contract.
Kathyrn reports that Arsenal are considering changing their stance with only three games left of the season. McCabe has played with some success as a left centre-back against the likes of Chelsea and Lyon recently, increasing her value to the squad.
Kathyrn also reports that Caitlin Foord has been offered a new deal, as was Beth Mead. On April 28, we reported the following, ‘Arseblog News understands that Arsenal were willing to make Beth Mead an offer to stay at the club but Manchester City are likely to offer the player a longer deal.
‘With Caitlin Foord also out of contract this summer, we believe the club would prefer not to lose both wingers in one summer. We currently don’t have firm information around whether Caitlin will be offered a new deal but it’s one we are keeping an eye on.’
Our belief is that Arsenal wanted to keep one of Foord and Mead because they did not necessarily want to have to buy two wingers in one summer and with Mead set to join Manchester City, that opens up the possibility of Foord remaining.
