Skip Bayless criticized Luka Doncic after the Lakers fell 0-2 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, saying the team has looked better without him on the floor. With Doncic still out due to a hamstring injury, Bayless questioned his efficiency and impact as the Lakers struggle in the playoff series.
Los Angeles Lakers are under more pressure in the Western Conference semifinals, and Luka Doncic is now at the center of a strong debate after comments from analyst Skip Bayless.
Los Angeles Lakers / Schedule
With Los Angeles struggling in the series, Bayless questioned the impact of Doncic on the team and made a bold claim about the Lakers' level without him.
"Los Angeles Lakers were a better both ends of the floor basketball team without Luka," he said on ESPN. "And I remind you that game one was close in the fourth quarter until the Thunder predictably just surged and blew them off the floor because that's what they do. Points off turnover. They smoke you with POT, P-O-T, points off turnovers. That's what they do. And yet, remember, last night, it was a 5-point game with 8 minutes to go. So they were hanging in. They played a good basketball game last night."
"I thought LeBron overall played a really well-rounded offensive-defensive basketball game. He's been playing well this series. He has. And yet, I remind you, with Luka on just April 3rd, wasn't that long ago, at Oklahoma City in their final regular season matchup, what happened with Luka on the floor in the first half? Oklahoma City led at halftime 82-51. It was a mismatch with Luka. What's, what are my issues with Luka? He is the most inefficient player in the league and it ain't even close," Bayless concluded.
The Lakers are currently down 0-2 in the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, while Doncic has been out for over a month with a Grade 2 hamstring strain suffered in a game against OKC.
Doncic has been sidelined since suffering the hamstring injury, and the Lakers have taken a cautious approach with his recovery. There is still no clear timeline for his return.
Without their star guard, the Lakers have relied more on LeBron James, but the team has still struggled to match Oklahoma City's pace and physical defense.
