Arsenal plan major squad overhaul ahead of 2026/27 season
Arsenal are preparing to sell as many as five senior players this summer as Mikel Arteta changes his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The North London club find themselves in a strong financial position after their run to the Champions League final, having secured a staggering £122 million in UEFA prize money so far, with another £10 million on offer if they beat the opposition on 30 May.
Yet despite that windfall, the club accept they cannot repeat last summer’s extraordinary outlay, when they committed £267 million to eight new signings while generating only £10 million from sales. That imbalance triggered internal warnings over financial sustainability rules, and Arsenal are now actively building exit plans for several established names.
Ben White, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli are among those who could be on their way out. White has been a reliable right-back, but he doesn’t offer as much going forward as the top-tier full-backs across Europe. Trossard is a useful utility man, but he struggles to stay consistent enough to start every week at the highest level.
Martinelli, despite his explosive pace and pressing intensity, has been frustrating with his end-product, too often picking the wrong pass or shot in the final third. One confirmed exit is Jakub Kiwior, whose £19 million move to Porto is already a done deal, clearing the way for Piero Hincapie to arrive for £45 million. The club are also open to selling academy graduates Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, whose departures would count as pure profit since they came through the ranks.

Does Arsenal’s financial discipline this summer actually signal maturity or timidity?
Arsenal’s restraint this coming window feels less like being cautious and more like having a clear plan. Rather than just throwing money at a bunch of new signings again, Arteta seems to be picking quality over quantity, and that change in approach could make all the difference. The Champions League prize money has given Arsenal real control in negotiations, so offloading underperformers while reinvesting in the right areas isn’t playing it safe. It’s a smart move, and honestly, it’s exactly what Arsenal needed to do.
