Arsenal Have Identified £52M Rated Livramento Alternative But 'Half Of Europe' Want Him Too

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Roma fullback Wesley, according to reports in Italy.

The Gunners are expected to reinforce the right-hand side of defence this summer, with Ben White likely to be sold at the end of the season.

Calciomercato.it claim that Wesley is on the radar of sporting director Andrea Berta, but no formal offer has been made for the Brazilian so far.

The London club are considering their options, with Newcastle’s Tino Livramento deemed a viable alternative.

Calciomercato.it report that “half of Europe” has taken an interest in the 22-year-old following a strong first season in Serie A with Roma

It is believed that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle are among Wesley’s others suitors, with the Magpies said to be considering him as a potential replacement for Livramento.

How much would Arsenal have to pay for the player?

Roma signed Wesley from Flamengo for an initial €25m, with another €5m due in add-ons, last July, taking the total cost of the deal to €30m (£26m).

The Giallorossi is said to value the defender at double that amount now – approximately €60m or £52m.

That would be a lot of money for the Gunners, but if White leaves as expected, manager Mikel Arteta will be keen on finding someone who can provide genuine competition for Jurrien Timber.

White played his best game of the season against Atletico Madrid earlier this week, but he has struggled for form and fitness for the majority of the campaign. With Timber’s groin injury a serious concern as well, finding someone who can play plenty of minutes is a priority. Even so, splashing out £50m+ on a new right-back may be beyond Arsenal’s means.
