Hakeem Abubakar gains valuable experience with Arsenal U18s

Consistency in terms of results has been difficult to come by for Arsenal U18s, who fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Reading today.

The versatile Louis Zecevic John (who has played as a striker, winger, right-back and even an emergency goalkeeper this season) managed to get on the scoresheet with his fourth goal in his last six league appearances for the U18s.

Whereas more experienced players had featured in the last two games, coach Adam Birchall reverted to a more regular lineup on this occasion, with schoolboy Hakeem Abubakar deployed at left-back.

Abubakar has been offered a scholarship contract for next season and is seen as one of the most exciting players within that group.

The youngster has featured six times for the U18s this season and has frequently caught the eye with his attacking forays.

Although he faces competition from Elyon Mbala, Abubakar will be looking to establish himself as the first-choice left-back for the U18s next season and will also hope to feature at higher levels.

Before that Arsenal U18s will look to round off an inconsistent campaign with a victory when they face Crystal Palace away next weekend.
