Sky Sports: Arsenal can sign 'fastest man in football' in £74.5m deal after talks held

Arsenal have been told they can sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon in a £74.5m deal this summer after holding talks, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Gunners are in the market for a new left-winger to strengthen their attack after underwhelming campaigns from Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, and they are keen to entice some of the top players to the Emirates as they close in on a Premier League and Champions League double.

Gordon is a long-term target for the north London club, and it has now emerged that they have been informed of the conditions needed to make a deal happen.

Arsenal Told to Pay £74.5m for Gordon

Gordon, who has been described as 'the fastest man in football', is expected to depart St James' Park this summer with the Magpies having a disappointing campaign which has left them on the brink of missing out on European football entirely for next season.

Bayern Munich are understood to have made the England international their top target for the transfer window, and have held club-to-club talks with Newcastle about a deal.

It's understood that in those talks Newcastle set their asking price at £78m for the winger, but Bayern have deemed that to be excessive and are now eyeing alternative targets, although they retain their interest.

But it's also stated that Arsenal are also informed of the situation regarding his future, and a more realistic final figure for any transfer is likely to be between €75-85m (£65-73.5m). It's unclear if Arsenal would be willing to pay that, but they are more capable of paying a high fee than Bayern, and that could give them an advantage in the race for his signature.

Gordon Would Be Upgrade on Martinelli

While the fee would be very high, Gordon has shown that he is capable of making a difference at the highest level, having scored 10 times in the Champions League this season alone.

Arsenal know that they need a new left-winger to come in and help them be more of a threat down that side, and Gordon would undeniably be able to provide that. He's far more direct than Trossard, and he's also just an overall upgrade on Martinelli.

If the club can get better for cheaper then they absolutely should do that, but it will be hard to find deals that make as much sense at this value, so it could be one that Arsenal take a closer look at in the coming months.
