Arsenal are moving closer to Premier League glory and could advance further with a victory over relegation-battling West Ham today.

The Gunners have experienced a fruitful fortnight, making it to the Champions League final and embarking on a four-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. Mikel Arteta's team beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate to reach their first European final since 2019.

Their latest Premier League victory against Fulham was boosted by Manchester City's draw against Everton, allowing them to extend their advantage in the title race. Two of football's most prestigious trophies could be in their hands by the month's end, though Paris Saint-Germain represent a substantial obstacle in Europe.

The French side defeated Bayern Munich 6-5 on aggregate to reach the final and have been an imposing presence throughout the campaign. With a challenging visit to the London Stadium approaching, football.london has the latest emerging from the red half of north London.

£50m man explains transfer

Noni Madueke departed Chelsea for Arsenal for one straightforward reason; he felt the Gunners are closer to winning trophies. The Blues signed the England international for approximately £29million in 2023 and had significant expectations for the winger.

He opted to switch allegiances last summer and joined Arsenal in a deal worth £48.5m, potentially rising above £50m with performance-related bonuses. When questioned about his decision to cross the city divide, Madueke explained to Sky Sports that silverware motivated his transfer.

He said: "I just believed that we were going to win. I believed we were going to win trophies. That's why I moved."

Discussing who helped ease his transition from red to blue, Madueke added: "All the England boys for sure. I was already close with them so it was great. And then the whole club really, everyone in and around the club.

"It's an easy club to settle into you know, it's full of good people and people that want to work hard and achieve something."

Since his arrival, the winger has registered 11 goal contributions across 40 appearances and will be looking to help the Gunners secure silverware both domestically and in Europe.

Mikel Arteta responds to critics

Mikel Arteta has offered an indirect response to Wayne Rooney following his criticism of Arsenal's Champions League celebrations. The Gunners defeated Atleti to reach their first Champions League final in two decades, with supporters and players savouring the moment through a standing ovation and enthusiastic chanting.

This did not sit well with the former United man, who enjoyed a trophy-laden Premier League career. Appearing on Amazon Prime, Rooney took aim at the squad's overly exuberant celebrations as he said: "They deserve to be in this position, but they haven't won it yet. I think the celebrations are a little bit too much. Celebrate when you win."

When quizzed about Rooney's remarks, Arteta claimed he was completely unaware his side had come under fire - though he insisted that such comments didn't affect him. He said: "First of all, I didn't know about it but I don't know. I think you have to respect every opinion and place them where they belong."

Pressed further on exactly where those opinions should go, Arteta remained tight-lipped. He added: "Where they belong. I don't know, that's not important."

Arsenal's attentions will now switch to the Premier League, with fixtures against West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace still to navigate before their showdown with PSG in Budapest.
