Warriors rumors: The Stephen Curry move coming after Steve Kerr’s return

On Saturday, it was reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania that Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr would be returning to the team on a new two-year deal. The news came amid speculation that this past season could have been Kerr's last in the Bay Area, where he has won four championships as the head coach.

Now that Kerr will officially be back in the mix, more intel is coming to light on the Warriors' plan regarding franchise cornerstone Stephen Curry moving forward.

“Entering the offseason, the Warriors will immediately turn their attention to discussing a long-term contract extension with Curry after agreeing to a new deal with Kerr, sources said,” reported ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel.

Curry currently has one more year remaining on his current deal, but the two sides reportedly want to get an extension done this summer to keep the future Hall of Famer with the organization.

“…it's unknown how many years Curry wants on a new extension and whether he will take the full max or opt for less money to help the team be in a better financial position to tackle other offseason obstacles,” reported Siegel.

As currently constructed, the Warriors are well outside the contention zone in the Western Conference. While banking on the health of Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler next year could theoretically be a strategy for Golden State, that proved to be highly unreliable this year, as Curry missed extended time with a knee injury, and Butler went out for the season with a torn ACL.

The Warriors do have a considerable amount of assets at their disposal this summer, so it will be fascinating to see how Mike Dunleavy and company choose to use those in hopes of improving the team.
