The comments certainly didn’t go down well with Arsenal supporters on X, who felt Neville's analysis was both harsh and poorly timed given that White had just been helped off the pitch in visible discomfort. The consensus was that Neville had crossed a line by appearing to blame a player for his own injury in what most felt was a straightforward 50/50 challenge.

There were even calls for Neville to be taken off Arsenal coverage entirely. "Take Gary Neville off commentary for Arsenal games PLEASE, he's cooking Ben White for getting injured," said one supporter, while another summarised the mood with characteristic directness: "Did Gary Neville honestly say: 'Ben White left out his leg in really weak fashion, so it's his own fault for getting injured in the 50/50.'
