Warriors rumors: Steve Kerr spurned ‘aggressive’ 7-figure ESPN offer

Over the weekend, the Golden State Warriors officially re-signed head coach Steve Kerr on a new two-year deal, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. The move keeps the head coach in Golden State after speculation that this past 2025-26, which ended in a play-in tournament exit, could have been his last in the Bay Area.

Now, more information has come to light on some of the offers from outside the coaching sphere that Kerr had to turn down in order to return to Golden State.

“Steve Kerr can walk into a top analyst’s job anytime he wants; ESPN was especially aggressive about the chase, probably offering up to $7 million per, and I heard was willing to meet almost any possible condition of his, including staying away from all hot-take panel shows,” reported Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard, per Hoopshype.

Kerr has plenty of experience in broadcasting, having been a color commentator for TNT prior to his run as the Warriors' head coach.

However, ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel has confirmed that a departure to the media landscape was never truly in consideration for Kerr this offseason.

“…throughout this discourse, potential positions for Kerr outside of the Warriors never once surfaced in conversations, sources said… rumors surrounding potential media giants pursuing Kerr held zero influence on internal discussions,” reported Siegel.

Kerr has had a highly successful run in Golden State, winning four NBA championships with the Warriors, the most recent of which occurred in 2022.

While there has been some angst within the fanbase regarding Kerr over the last couple of seasons, he still has plenty of respect and power within the Warriors organization and will be staying on board with the team for the foreseeable future as a result.
