Victor Wembanyama was ejected for a Flagrant 2 foul after elbowing Naz Reid in Game 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, though the San Antonio Spurs reportedly do not expect him to be suspended, and Wemby is expected to be available for Game 5.
The San Antonio Spurs do not expect Victor Wembanyama to face additional punishment following his elbow to Naz Reid during Game 4 on Sunday, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
The NBA is expected to review the incident on Monday.
Wembanyama was ejected early in the second quarter of Game 4 after throwing an elbow that struck Reid in the throat area during the Spurs' Western Conference semifinal matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The play occurred after Wembanyama grabbed a rebound outside the paint and was quickly surrounded by Reid and teammate Jaden McDaniels.
Officials immediately called an offensive foul, and after a video review, the call was upgraded to a Flagrant 2 foul for excessive contact above the neck.
Before being ejected, Wemby recorded four points, four rebounds, and three fouls in 13 minutes during San Antonio's 114-109 loss. The series is now tied 2-2.
"I'm glad he took matters into his own hands," Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said. "Not in terms of hitting Naz Reid, I want to be very clear about that. I'm glad Naz Reid is okay ... but [Wemby's] going to have to protect himself if [the refs] are not.
"The amount of physicality that people play with, with him, at some level, you have to protect yourself."
It was the first time Wembanyama was ejected in his career, either in the regular season or the playoffs.
Reid, meanwhile, downplayed the incident afterward.
"Pain is weakness leaving the body, that's it," he said.
San Antonio will host Game 5 on Tuesday, while Wembanyama's availability will ultimately depend on the NBA's final decision.
Wemby didn't know what Flagrant 2 meant:
