Talks held: Arsenal now in contact to sign "world-class" star as replacement for Arteta…

Arsenal have held talks regarding a summer deal for Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso, who could be brought in as a replacement for Ben White.

Ben White's Arsenal future up in the air

Mikel Arteta has made it clear he remains a big fan of White, lauding the Englishman as "tremendous" after he re-established in the first team earlier this season, and he has now made 29 appearances in all competitions.

However, the defender's future at the Emirates Stadium is now in doubt, with it being revealed he has been growing unhappy, having fallen behind Jurrien Timber in the pecking order, and Everton are keen on a summer move.

Manchester United have even been named as potential suitors for the 28-year-old, who has returned to the starting XI in recent weeks, with Timber potentially in line to miss the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury.

Arteta has admitted he doesn't know whether the 24-year-old will be available for selection before the season comes to a close, saying: "I don't know, there's still a fair bit to do. Everything needs to be so smooth and quick to play any minutes."

According to a report from TEAMtalk, it is now expected that White will depart this summer, and Cambiaso has been identified as a replacement, with Juventus open to selling the Italian defender for £30m.

Talks have been held, with the Gunners being approached regarding a deal for the 26-year-old, who is capable of playing on both sides of the defence, and operating in central midfield.

Hailed as "world-class" by journalist Zach Lowy, the 19-cap Italy international has been a key player for Juve this season, displaying his attacking prowess by amassing three goals and four assists in 34 Serie A appearances.

The Genoa-born defender has also created 54 chances in the Serie A this season, which is the second-highest number in the Juventus squad, with Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice the only Arsenal players who have created more in the Premier League.

Arteta lauds Saka ahead of Premier League title run-in

Having scored in the 1-0 Champions League semi-final victory against Atletico Madrid, Arteta believes Saka has the quality to lead Arsenal to the Premier League title, saying: "Obviously his role has grown around the club, around the team and on the pitch towards the opponent as well. You sense that. He has got a presence now, he has got an aura. He has got something special.

"He is a different player, he is a player that can change a game at any moment. And creating that fear in the opponent is something important."
