Beth Mead to depart Arsenal at the end of the season

Arsenal forward Beth Mead will leave the club at the end of the season when her contract expires. Mead joined the club from Sunderland in January 2017 and made 265 appearances and scored 86 goals for Arsenal.

Beth won a WSL title, three Conti Cups and a Champions League during her time with the club and was voted second in the 2022 Ballon D’Or after winning the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament as England won the Euros in 2022. Beth was named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year and England’s Player of the Year and won BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2022.

Mead set up Stina Blackstenius’ winning goal in the 2025 Champions League Final and won another Euros with England later that summer. Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley, said: “Beth has made a huge contribution to our football club over nine years, and will go down in history as one of our best forwards and a legend of the club. Beth is such a special person and will always be welcome at Arsenal. I know our supporters will join me in wishing Beth happiness and success in her future endeavours.”

As we previously reported, we understand that Arsenal did offer Mead a new contract but the offer from Manchester City is for a longer deal and we expect her to sign for City unless something significant changes.
