KU’s Peterson projected to go 2nd in NBA Draft

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Will Darryn Peterson be a Washington Wizard? Following the freshman’s lone season at the University of Kansas, the attention surrounding the phenom, at least momentarily, turns from health questions to where he will play professionally next season.

With cramps keeping him sidelined for stretches last season, Peterson, widely considered the top prospect, had a degree of risk associated with his name. Despite the cramping issue, the talent is undeniable and Peterson is still projected to hear his name called soon after the NBA Draft begins.

ESPN projects the Utah Jazz to pick the star guard with the No. 2 overall pick. The Wizards, picking first, are projected to select another freshman phenom out of the Big 12: BYU’s AJ Dybantsa.

As Peterson prepares for his NBA future, KU is looking to fill in the pieces it needs to return to the top of the Big 12. The Jayhawks will be dependent upon a mix of transfers and high-profile freshmen, led by the consensus No. 1-ranked recruit in the nation, Tyran Stokes.

The 2026 NBA Draft is set for June 23 and 24 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
