Mikel Arteta's appointment at Arsenal in December 2019 raised more than a few eyebrows. The Gunners were still looking to find their feet after a poor Unai Emery spell, following Arsene Wenger's 22-year reign.
Arteta played 150 games for Arsenal, retiring at the club in 2016. The ex-club captain took his time to get fans onside at the Emirates, and even looked likely to lose his job after a disastrous start to the 2021-22 season.
However, he turned things around and has elevated the north Londoners to regular title challengers. As the Gunners look like they're finally going to lift the Premier League trophy after three successive second-placed finishes, we've decided to take a look at the table since Arteta's arrival.

There have been 28 different teams in the English top-flight during Arteta's reign so far. Ipswich Town, Luton Town, West Brom, Norwich City and Watford make up the bottom four of this table, having not completed any more than a season-and-a-half.
Sunderland, despite only playing 36 games in the Premier League since 2019, are impressively above the chasing pack with 48 points. Sheffield United, Burnley, Southampton and Leeds United have all moved between the divisions to varying degrees of success.
Nottingham Forest have secured their top-flight status for another season, meaning they'll add to their current 182-point tally and look to move up this table. Leicester City are on exactly 200 points, but are now two leagues below the Premier League.
Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford haven't always been in the league since 2019, but are all now picking up regular points and will probably overtake 13th-placed Wolves (278 points) next term due to their relegation.

Arsenal Have an Impressive Haul Under Mikel Arteta
Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta
As expected, the top 12 teams in this table have all been present throughout Arteta's tenure at Arsenal. Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham have all got over 300 points on the board in the last six-and-a-half years.
Brighton (337 points) and Newcastle United (359) have risen to become some of the more impressive teams in the division in recent years, and both are firmly within the top half of this table.
Aston Villa have broken up the traditional 'Big Six' in recent years, and they've picked up more points than Tottenham, according to these rankings. Unsurprisingly, Chelsea and Manchester United are in and around the top five places, but many points behind the top three.
Arteta's Arsenal have claimed 75 more points than the Red Devils since his appointment, but that's still less than the only two clubs to have lifted the trophy since 2019. Liverpool, under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, have 503 points while Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have a whopping 550 to date. It's hardly surprising when considering they won the league four years in a row not too long ago.
