NBA rumors: Bucks not ruling out big trade to convince Giannis Antetokounmpo to stay

On Monday, it was reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania that the Milwaukee Bucks were officially taking trade calls on franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo. The reports come amid what has already been a busy offseason for the Bucks, with the team parting ways with head coach Doc Rivers and hiring Taylor Jenkins to the same position.

However, although they are willing to consider dealing Antetokounmpo, the Bucks still aren't ruling out the possibility of building a better team around him in order to convince him to stay.

“The Bucks are also leaving the door open to pursue a major trade to convince Antetokounmpo to stay once again, allowing (Jon) Horst to work parallel paths. They will have up to three first-round picks and tradeable contracts such as Bobby Portis and Kyle Kuzma to offer in deals this offseason. One of those first-rounders is the less favorable of their own or the New Orleans Pelicans' this year,” reported Charania on ESPN.com.

Many fans around the NBA are quickly growing exhausted with the seemingly never-ending carousel of trade rumors surrounding Giannis and the Bucks, with the relationship appearing to be on the verge on an inevitable breakup at multiple points throughout the last year, only for the two sides to once again reiterate their commitment to one another.

The Bucks missed out on the playoffs altogether in 2025-26 after their disastrous signing of Myles Turner the previous offseason, and now, it appears the team is at least considering cutting its losses and starting a new era, although the possibility of trying to make another win-now move to appease Antetokounmpo clearly remains on the table.

At this point, fans will likely have to see it to believe it when it comes to a Giannis trade.
