Following the disappointing exit, former NBA champion and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins believes it is time for Joel Embiid and the franchise to go in different directions.
"For Joel Embiid, this relationship has run its course. It's time for both parties to separate. I think it would be in the best interest for the organization, and it would also be in the best interest for Joel Embiid," Perkins said on ESPN's First Take.
"I believe Joel Embiid needs to change the scenery. I believe Joel Embiid needs a breath of fresh air to go to another place and play to be under another organization, to be under different leadership.”
Embiid once again dealt with injuries during the postseason, continuing a trend that has followed much of his career in Philadelphia
Although he showed flashes of dominance after returning in the first-round series against the Boston Celtics, the 76ers struggled to keep momentum going against New York.
The former MVP has remained one of the league's top talents when healthy, but injuries have repeatedly hurt Philadelphia's playoff hopes over the years.
At the same time, Tyrese Maxey has continued to grow into a bigger role, with many around the league seeing him as the future centerpiece of the organization.
