The Spaniard made a massive save from West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes during the 1-0 win on Sunday, a result that may have helped secure the title. Redknapp says the addition of the Spaniard has now proven to be an inspired decision:

“When you think back, this is where the manager deserves credit because when David Raya first come, I wasn’t sure about that decision. Arsenal already had a good goalkeeper in Aaron Ramsdale. I was thinking, ‘why are you making that change?’ But this season Raya has shown he’s definitely the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and maybe the best goalkeeper in the world.”

“It is an unbelievable save in the moment. You have to give the goalkeeper credit. He stands up, and then he flicks out his right foot. It is an unbelievable save.”

Redknapp is not the only one to praise Raya

Arsenal goalkeeping legend David Seaman has also spoken out following the victory against West Ham. However, he did not single him out for the save from Fernandes, rather than the incident that led to the Hammers’ equaliser being ruled out.

Posting on X, Seaman praised Raya’s “bravery” for trying to catch the ball, rather than punch it, and it is more than likely contributed to the goal being ruled out for a foul on the keeper.

The Arsenal star has won another Golden Glove

Raya has become just the fourth Premier League number one in history to win three Golden Glove awards, which is given to the keeper for the most clean sheets.

The Gunners shot-stopper follows in the footsteps of fellow Spaniard Pepe Reina, and Manchester City pair Ederson and Joe Hart.
