Joel Embiid jokes about solution for bad back that hindered him vs. Knicks

The Philadelphia 76ers’ 2025-26 season came to end as they were eliminated in a sweep during their Eastern Conference Semifinal series by the New York Knicks. 76ers star Joel Embiid was limited during the series against the Knicks due to a back injury, and following the team’s elimination, he was in bit of a light-hearted mood when talking about potential solutions, as per Adam Aronson of The Philly Voice.

While brainstorming possible reasons for his back injury, Joel Embiid suggested that maybe he needs to go church more or that maybe he is cursed as an individual. He also suggested that perhaps the city of Philadelphia is cursed, before stating that, that was a joke.

Whatever the reason may be though, the 76ers certainly have questions to answer heading into the offseason, especially when it comes to Embiid’s potential future and his persistent injury concerns.

Embiid was limited to only 38 games this season due to his injury issues. He was sidelined to begin the playoffs as well after suffering an emergency appendectomy. He made his return midway through the 76ers’ opening round series against the Boston Celtics, and was a driving factor behind the team’s comeback series win after being down 3-1.

During the 76ers’ playoff run, Embiid averaged 24.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists with splits of 46 percent shooting from the field, 17.9 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 83.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Embiid is currently under contract with the 76ers for at least two more seasons before he can potentially opt out in the 2028 offseason.
