Ja Morant is as good as gone after Grizzlies’ No. 3 coup

Ja Morant and his time with the Memphis Grizzlies ticked away once the NBA Draft Lottery wrapped up. His team locked in the No. 3 overall selection Sunday. But Morant rises as the odd man out in this scenario.

Memphis can turn to many different prospects here in a loaded rookie class. AJ Dybantsa of BYU would galvanize the fan base but he's likely heading to the Washington Wizards at No. 1. Memphis can turn to whoever falls between Darryn Peterson of Kansas or Cameron Boozer of Duke.

NBA insider for ClutchPoints Brett Siegel dropped some intel there Monday, citing the latter as the best option.

“Out of all the teams that could select Boozer, the Memphis Grizzlies stand out as an ideal fit for the young forward for a multitude of reasons,” Siegel began. “Not only does this team already have established young pieces Boozer can play off of during their rebuild, like Jaylen Wells and Cedric Coward, but he would enter a system that already has an established big man in Zach Edey.”

Siegel adds how adding the son of Carlos Boozer makes Memphis “elite” in cleaning the glass. Plus how “Edey would support Boozer's all-around skill on both ends, and the Grizzlies would all of a sudden have a lot of length and athleticism.”

But again, Morant likely goes in this situation per Siegel. The Milwaukee Bucks with Taylor Jenkins as head coach becomes a possible landing spot. Regardless, Morant surfaces as one of the biggest trade names between now and June 23 on draft night.
