Speaking on The Stephen A. Smith Show, the ESPN analyst made a bold prediction about Brunson's legacy if the Knicks manage to win the NBA title this season.
"If the New York Knicks win the conference tournament, and they end up advancing to the Finals, and they win the finals with Jalen Brunson doing what he does, Jalen Brunson will go down as the greatest New York Knickerbocker in history," Smith said.
He continued with an even stronger statement.
"Better than Walt 'Clyde' Frazier, better than Bernard King, better than Patrick Ewing, all of it. He'll go down as the greatest Knick of all time if he delivers the championship to this city. No doubt about it."
The Knicks have reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the second straight season and are now only four wins away from ending a championship drought that dates back to 1973.
Since Brunson arrived in New York in 2022, the franchise has become one of the most consistent teams in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have made the playoffs every year during his time with the team and continue to take major steps forward.
In 10 postseason games, the All-Star guard is averaging 27.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while shooting 48.5 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from three-point range, and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.
