Arsenal player makes sudden retirement from national side–Has played last game

Arsenal are currently pushing towards the Premier League title, with Christian Nørgaard playing a squad role for Mikel Arteta’s side this season.

The 32-year-old has played 19 matches across all competitions in the current campaign. However, he’s only managed to put together 56 minutes in the Premier League.

His last league minutes for Arsenal came in March, with the midfielder on and off the bench since then.

In March, Nørgaard also played for the Danish national side as they tried to qualify for the World Cup via the play-offs. Denmark eased through against North Macedonia before facing Czech Republic in their final.

Unfortunately for the Arsenal player and his teammates, it was the Czechs who came out on top in a penalty shootout.

World Cup heartbreak left mark

After the match, Christian Nørgaard hinted he was considering his international future.

Denmark’s Bold quoted the Arsenal player as saying:

“Yes, I’ve thought about it. Right now I was hoping I would go to the World Cup. As I said, some things have happened over the past six months that have made me reconsider the situation.

“I’ve been thinking about it for some time. I had hoped to be at the World Cup. It’s a bitter feeling right now.”

Decision has now been made

Bold now report Christian Nørgaard has played his last game in the Denmark jersey. The Arsenal squad man has made his final decision and won’t be available for manager Brian Riemer any longer.

Nørgaard was a regular for Denmark, so Riemer will now need to change his plans going forward.

Arsenal future in doubt

Earlier this year, Christian Nørgaard spoke about his position change under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

More concerning is likely his lack of minutes. At 32-years-of-age there’s not much time left to get regular football.

Despite an Arsenal contract expiring in June 2027, with an option for a further year, it would be no surprise if he decides to move on this summer.
