**[Arsenal](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal/) favourite Freddie Ljungberg has dismissed any controversy over West Ham United’s disallowed equaliser, insisting it’s a free kick “every day of the week”.**
[Aftenposten](https://www.aftenposten.no/) report comments from the former winger today following Sunday’s huge moment in the Premier League title race.
**Arsenal VAR intervention**
----------------------------
Arsenal were heading for a 1-0 victory at the London Stadium in Sunday’s late kick-off thanks to Leandro Trossard’s 83rd minute strike following a laboured display beforehand.
But that only sparked a late flourish at the end of the game as West Ham battled to try and secure a point in their own quest to avoid relegation.
Callum Wilson appeared to have done just that five minutes into injury time. He smashed home following a mad scramble in the box, kicking off delirious scenes for the Hammers.
But that turned into disgust as VAR intervened. They argued that Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had been impeded during the corner, ruling the goal out after a review from the referee.
That, naturally, has led to widespread reaction. Ljungberg, though, isn’t going to sit on the fence on this one.
_“For me, that’s a free kick every day of the week. It’s correctly disallowed,”_ the Viaplay expert said after the game.
Colleague and former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, however, completely disagreed:
_“I think it’s poor goalkeeping,”_ he said.
_“I don’t think it’s clear enough to be changed. There’s so much wrong with that change. That’s all that’s wrong with this refereeing. It makes me angry.”_
**Ødegaard delight**
--------------------
For Arsenal star Martin Ødegaard, though, there was no focus on the controversy. Instead, the 27-year-old was simply delighted to be able to make an impact.
The midfielder has endured a difficult campaign thanks to a knee problem, struggling to make the impact that he perhaps would like.
That was not the case against West Ham. Indeed, most would argue, his introduction changed the game in Arsenal’s favour. The Norwegian was certainly happy with his contribution.
_“We’ve fought our whole lives to be in such a position. We know what we’re playing for and how important it is,”_ he told Viaplay after the game.
_“It means everything to me. I don’t know what to say. It’s absolutely fantastic. It’s incredibly big._
_“I’ve struggled a lot with my knee, but now I’m starting to feel like myself again. Fortunately, I was able to come in and contribute the way I want today.”_
