Is De’Aaron Fox playing tonight? Spurs vs. Timberwolves Game 5 injury report

The San Antonio Spurs return home Tuesday night for a pivotal Game 5 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves with the Western Conference semifinal series tied at 2-2. The Timberwolves were able to tie things up in Game 4 after Victor Wembanyama was ejected for his elbow on Naz Reid, allowing Anthony Edwards and co. to take charge of the game.

However, San Antonio enter this game with a considerable injury concern as De’Aaron Fox is officially listed as questionable on the injury report due to right ankle soreness. Fox picked up the knock back in Game 4 but still ended up producing 24 points despite appearing to play through pain, especially late game. The Spurs, meanwhile, will be delighted that Wemby has escaped further punishment and is likely to slot in straight into the starting lineup for this all-important Game 5.

At the same time, Minnesota are themselves dealing with an injury concern, with Donte DiVincenzo out indefinitely after rupturing his right Achilles tendon in Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets.

De’Aaron Fox is officially listed as questionable for Tuesday night’s contest because of right ankle soreness. The Spurs guard appeared to tweak the ankle during the second half of San Antonio’s 114-109 loss in Minneapolis after a loose-ball sequence involving Timberwolves guard Ayo Dosunmu.

Fox briefly exited the game before returning and playing through the issue down the stretch. Fox was able to finish Game 4 and logged 37 minutes overall, posting 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals while shooting 8-for-23 from the field.

Considering he did not exit the last game, the 28-year-old can be expected to return for Game 5 as well. Of course, he has had his struggles in the series thus far.

Through four games, Fox is averaging 16.8 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds while shooting just 37.9% from the floor. Minnesota’s physical defence means that he has regularly been forced into difficult shots, something he will be looking to move past in Game 5.

Minnesota, meanwhile, continues to lean heavily on Anthony Edwards, who erupted for 36 points in Game 4 despite reportedly playing through knee discomfort. Edwards scored 16 points in the fourth quarter alone as the Timberwolves erased an eight-point deficit and stole back momentum in the series.

Regardless, as things stand, Fox is expected to suit up or Game 5.
