1962.- American Harold Johnson claimed the world light heavyweight crown by defeating fellow countryman Doug Jones via a 15-round unanimous decision. The title, sanctioned by the NBA (which would become the WBA later that year), had been vacant following the stripping of Archie Moore. The bout took place at the Philadelphia Arena in the city of the same name. Dave Beloff served as the referee, with Zachary Clayton and Nick Spano as the judges.

1981.- At the City Gymnasium in Mito, Japan, Mexico’s Antonio Avelar pulled off an upset by scoring a 7th-round technical knockout over Japan’s Shoji Oguma. With this victory, Avelar stripped the Japanese fighter of the WBC world flyweight title, showcasing devastating power on foreign soil.

2018.- Mexican Rey Vargas successfully defended his WBC world super bantamweight title by defeating Armenia’s Azat Hovhannisyan via unanimous decision. The bout was a grueling, high-paced battle held at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. Vargas displayed superb technique to weather the challenger’s pressure and maintain his undefeated record.
