JJ Redick reveals Rob Pelinka, Lakers' imminent desire to win NBA championship

The Los Angeles Lakers have now failed to win another NBA championship for the sixth-straight year. They have also not gone back to the Western Conference Finals since 2023. Clearly, this serves as an indication that there are things to change in the system. JJ Redick will have to adjust and so does Rob Pelinka.

How soon do the Lakers plan to win the Larry O'Brien trophy again?

Redick, Pelinka have imminent desire for a Lakers NBA championship

A lot of roadblocks have to be settled first prior to going on an NBA championship run. The Lakers have to ensure that Luka Doncic is healthy, LeBron James needs to re-sign in free agency, and they have make sure Austin Reaves gets extended. JJ Redick also has to make schematic adjustments to overcome Western Conference giants like the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Clearly, there is a desire to win the Larry O'Brien trophy in the eyes of the Lakers organization. But, how much and how soon do they want it? Coach Redick had an answer after they got eliminated in the NBA Playoffs, via Sam Amick and Dan Woike of The Athletic.

"I believe in continuity, but I do think that there’s — if you’re trying to win a championship with this organization, and listen, I’m trying to win a championship. I know Pelinka’s trying to win a championship. I know Jeannie Buss is, I know Mark Walter) is. Like, we’re trying to win a championship. And so you have to be realistic and assess where you’re at. And we’re not good enough right now," the Lakers head coach said.

There is a lot of truth in Coach Redick's statement. The Lakers were not at all up to par against the Thunder as they got swept. Even in the series against the Houston Rockets, a lot of cracks surfaced which might have even cost them the series. All of these woes need to be fixed so that they are able to contend for an 18th NBA championship to tie the Boston Celtics.

A Lakers championship will come but even the front office does not know when.
