According to Rob Pelinka, the Lakers are planning to hire two new assistant general managers who will be focused on pro scouting, draft and evaluation, as well as strategy and salary cap.
The important offseason officially begins for the Los Angeles Lakers. After being swept by the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round, the franchise has many questions to answer as a summer filled with massive changes looms.
Beyond potential player additions and retaining several of their core pieces, the Lakers are also looking to hire new personnel in the front office.
In his end-of-season press conference, Lakers vice president Rob Pelinka formally announced that LA will add two assistant general managers on his side.
One will be focused on pro scouting, draft and evaluation. As such, the other assistant GM will be tasked with strategy and salary cap (h/t Law Murray of The Athletic).
The hiring process and interviewing are already underway, per Pelinka.
It's been well-known that the Lakers, under owner Mark Walter, will replicate the exact hierarchical, multi-layered executive system used by back-to-back World Series champions LA Dodgers.
These two upcoming brand-new assistant general manager additions will certainly play a key role in the Lakers' offseason plans.
