Lakers’ best Giannis Antetokounmpo trade offer to Bucks right now after Thunder sweep

This summer is going to be as pivotal as it gets for the Los Angeles Lakers. After being on the receiving end of a sweep at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, it's become more evident than ever that the Lakers need more pieces to be a more viable threat to win the NBA championship as they look more towards the future of their Luka Doncic-led core.

It was rather unfortunate that the Lakers couldn't properly assess the roster they had in this year's playoffs, as Doncic's absence essentially dashed any hopes they had of upsetting the Thunder. But building a roster specifically designed to get the most out of Doncic is going to be crucial for the Lakers.

Enter Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo has been on the trade block for a while now, and it's clear that the Milwaukee Bucks are going nowhere fast in the next few years. Meanwhile, Giannis has expressed a constant desire to compete for titles.

Perhaps teaming up with Doncic would give him that opportunity, although the Lakers are going to have to compete with other Antetokounmpo suitors and they may not have enough in the way of assets to pull off a trade of such magnitude.

Nonetheless, crazier things have happened in the past. In fact, not too long ago, the Lakers managed to acquire Doncic, who is coming off a season in which he led the Dallas Mavericks to a run to the NBA Finals, for far below what one would think his market value was.

Maybe the Lakers can catch lightning in a bottle twice and pair Doncic with one of the greatest superstars of this generation.

Lakers' perfect trade offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo

Lakers acquire: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Bucks acquire: Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht, Jake LaRavia, 2026 LAL first-round pick (eligible to be traded on draft night), 2031 and 2033 LAL unprotected first-round picks, 2028, 2030, 2032 LAL first-round pick swaps

It is safe to say that the Lakers don't have much in the way of trade assets as of the moment. Almost all of their crucial players this season are headed to free agency, with Reaves, in particular, about to sign a big contract after averaging 23-5-5 this past season. This means that the Lakers cannot exactly offer the Bucks much in the way of players.

In addition to Reaves, LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, Luke Kennard, and Jaxson Hayes are going to be free agents. Deandre Ayton could very well decline his player option worth $8 million for next season, while Marcus Smart could be in line for a significant raise from his $5.4 million player option after proving himself to be a big-time player in the postseason once more.

For those not counting at home, those are seven rotation players for the Lakers, all of whom logged significant minutes for the team in this year's playoffs. The only players who are guaranteed to be under contract for the Lakers who were part of this year's playoff rotation are Jarred Vanderbilt and Jake LaRavia.

There is a significant roster upheaval that is going to come for the Lakers, and this is just about the best they can do, trade-package wise, should they throw their hat in the ring for the Bucks star.

Will the Bucks find those draft picks very appealing? The Lakers have to offer all of their first-round picks just to get the Bucks to think about the offer, but even then, the package is so lacking from a player standpoint that the Bucks may just prefer to look elsewhere for a package that could bring them a young, up-and-coming star.

But 2031 and 2033 are a long ways away, and having control of six of the Lakers' eight picks from now until 2033 could be an enticing prospect for Milwaukee. Even then, Doncic is only going to be 34 years of age by the time 2033 comes around, and he could very well be a superstar-level player still by then.

If anything, the Bucks will have to wait for the Lakers to settle their roster down before any Antetokounmpo trade between these two teams can materialize. The Lakers having so many crucial pending free agents makes it rather impossible for them to navigate the trade market for Antetokounmpo, as the offer above isn't nearly enough to convince the Bucks.

The Bucks will have to wait for some sign-and-trades come free agency, preferably for Reaves, but even then, LA may not be too inclined to give Reaves away especially when him and Doncic have already built a synergistic friendship in the backcourt.

This is just a fun thought exercise, but right now, there is no realistic way for the Lakers to bring Antetokounmpo in via trade.
