According to Dan Woike and Sam Amick of The Athletic, Luka Doncic’s MRI in Spain revealed a far more severe complication than the Grade 2 left hamstring strain that was initially reported.
"While an MRI conducted in Dallas originally showed a Grade 2 lower hamstring strain, further medical evaluation in Spain showed a deeper and more severe hamstring injury," the report stated.
Doncic went down with an apparent hamstring strain in the Lakers' April 2 loss in Oklahoma City against the Thunder. He subsequently underwent an MRI in Dallas as the Lakers faced the Mavericks afterward.
The hamstring injury kept the Slovenian star out for the rest of the regular season. Doncic was also unable to play in the NBA Playoffs, as he had no choice but to be in the sidelines and see the Lakers get swept by OKC in the second round.
In his end-of-season address, Doncic set the record straight that he never got close to becoming fully healthy for Los Angeles.
Doncic already announced that he will not participate in Slovenia's FIBA World Cup qualifiers this summer, putting his focus on his injury recovery and spending time with his daughters amid an ongoing legal battle with former partner Anamaria Goltes.
