This might be the first time this sentence has ever been written, but it’d actually be inconsiderate of you not to try to play Winged Foot. The vaunted course is one of many impressive tee times being auctioned off in a fundraising event for First Tee-Metropolitan New York. There’s also Friar's Head, Fishers Island, Tree Farm, Bay Hill, Streamsong, Baltrusol, Apogee, Panther National, Hudson National, Kiawah Island, Sleepy Hollow … the list goes on and on. And believe it or not, we (sometimes) have a word count.
This year’s silent auction features 85+ items (their largest to date), and this annual charity event often raises between $250,000 to $300,000 for the Big Apple chapter. The money goes toward helping out New York tweens and teens build for the future, whether it be for individual tutoring, assistance in gaining admission into top high schools or to discover a life-long connection with the game of golf. The chapter has already raised more than $200k from this year's yet-to-be-completed auction.
The auction ends on Monday, May 18, at 10 p.m., with rounds currently ranging from $1,000 to $16,500. Well, those are the prices as we publish this. There’s also an opportunity to become a Dormie Network member, which gives you a membership to six nationally ranked courses across the country, plus all the usual luxuries.
You can see everything up for auction here. If you’re not yet in golf shape—trust us, we get it—non-golf experiences are being offered up as well, from NASCAR Cup Series passes to Knicks tickets to a beautiful needlepoint pillow. Or maybe, just maybe, you can bring your brand-new needlepoint pillow to Tree Farm for a Stay & Play multiple-round extravaganza. That’s the good-luck charm you need!
So, look through the auction and see if there’s a tee time that piques your fancy. For the kids, for the coaches and also for you. Hit some golf balls and change some lives. But in a positive way this time.
