Austin Reaves future with Lakers revealed

Austin Reaves is expected to be Luka Doncic's long-term co-star with the Los Angeles Lakers unless things "completely fall apart."

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is expected to remain Luka Doncic's long-term partner in Los Angeles – unless something drastically changes – according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

"It's very clear that Austin Reeves is going to be Luka's long-term co-star unless things completely fall apart and turn the opposite direction," McMahon said on The Hoop Collective podcast.

According to The Athletic, Doncic has reportedly informed the Lakers that he does not want Reaves included in any trade discussions, including a potential move for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, and Atlanta Hawks have all been mentioned as possible teams interested in pursuing Reaves if he reaches free agency.

Reaves is widely expected to decline his $14.8 million player option for the 2026-27 season and test the market.

Rival executives reportedly believe he could earn around $40 million per year, thanks to his production, age, and a weak upcoming free-agent class lacking players of his caliber in their prime.

Before injuries derailed the Lakers' season, Doncic and Reaves emerged as one of the NBA's most productive duos.

Doncic led the league in scoring with averages of 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game, while Reaves posted 22.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per contest.
